mayra Chavez

 TEXAS COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (TCEQ)

Dr. Mayra Chavez is currently working in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Texas at El Paso as an Assistant Professor of Research with a focus on Air Quality. She has earned a Doctoral Engineering degree in Civil Engineering.  She is also a part of the TCEQ Border Affairs Team, providing support in the El Paso and Ciudad Juarez region. She serves as liaison to the Joint Advisory Committee. Her academic research expertise is in traffic-related air pollution, mobile air monitoring, air dispersion modeling, and air pollution monitoring in border communities. She has led several of these studies in border region, working with universities in Ciudad Juarez, as well as other major cities in Texas. Her experience in air quality monitoring has led her to work on projects in which she participates in scientific research as well as community engagement and education. She has conducted collaborative research across several disciplines in environmental sciences, health sciences, and education.
